Several kilometres form Bautino Marine Support Base at village Atash, there is an old oil sludge landfill. The landfill has been closed in 2009. Both salty and not salty sludge is landfilled there in containers in dry form. According to MSB managers the waste is not toxic and all evidence indicates that the oil drilling waste is deposed in proper way. The area is properly fenced and marked by signs. The operating company (NCOC) planted trees all around the landfill, there are also several underground water quality monitoring drillings in surrounding area. This oil sludge could serve as an example of good quality.
