Flamingos separated from the flock

In early April 2015, there were strong and several days lasting dust storms in the Mangistau region. In this period there has been a migration of pink flamingos through the area with a stopover at the Karakol lake. Several individuals were repulsed from the pack because of the storm, and scattered on different points in the area. Flamingos were found at the  residents of Tauchik village, on the Caspian shore in the Kuryk village, on the waterfront in the Aktau city and at several more places. Pink Flamingo is listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. There have been reports from residents to the counseling center. Reportedly, some citizens took the birds home to help them in the period of the dust storm, but then they did not know what to do next.

Team of the Consulting Center traveled to such reported cases and to the population at the Karakol lake. However, some birds could not be saved. The livestock inspection explained that during migration it is quite a normal process that the weak individuals are repulsed from the pack and die.
